Chief Accountant [HYBRID] in Bucuresti

Job Description Your Role:We are looking for a full-time Chief Accountant with experience in IFRS 9 reporting for non-banking financial institutions in Romania and elsewhere. The candidate will be directly reporting to the CFO and will be responsible for a full set of accounting activities including consolidated reporting, bookkeeping, and payment execution, statutory reporting to the National Bank of Romania, and liaising with external accountants as needed to support the group’s activities. Responsibilities: Maintain end-to-end accounting and bookkeeping responsibility for all Group operating companies (in Romania, Bulgaria, Poland), including settlement with merchants, vendors, and suppliers. Manage the monthly and annual reporting of all Group companies, including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements on a monthly basis, together with maintaining cash flow and P&L deep-dives on a transaction level). Settle all payments with merchants and suppliers of Group companies. Prepare VAT and other relevant tax reports for Romania and Poland on a monthly basis, while being responsible for monitoring and adhering to applicable tax changes. Prepare and analyse statutory financial statements for Romania in accordance with IFRS 9 standards, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulations, and implement necessary updates to financial reporting processes. Collaborate with internal and external accountants and auditors to facilitate the preparation of audits and reporting and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Lead the implementation and maintenance of an automated IFRS 9 software solution as needed. Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in financial controls, reporting, and accounting operations. Provide bookkeeping inputs and liaise with external accountants in the process of preparation of statutory statements for the respective legal entities. Liaise with external accountants of the holding company of the Group on the preparation of annual financial statements for the group. Assist CFO and Group management with financial and tax analysis, supporting strategic initiatives of the Group. Communicate financial information effectively to stakeholders, including senior management, investors, and regulatory authorities. Oversee bank accounts, plan and manage liquidity, assist with KYC, payment documentation, etc. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or ACCA certification is preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial reporting, with a focus on IFRS standards. Strong knowledge of IFRS 9 reporting requirements for financial institutions, including complex financial instruments. Experience in preparing financial statements, conducting financial analysis, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Proficiency in accounting software (enabling IFRS 9 reporting) and advanced Excel skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting. Experience in leading or supervising junior accounting staff. Experience in driving IFRS 9 model implementation is a plus.
