This is achieved through positive customer interaction at the till point and on the shop floor by providing a professional, friendly and enthusiastic service, ensuring the store is clean, tidy and free from hazards - highlighting any health & safety issues to management, working stock and, as a team, delivering a high standard of merchandising disciplines and stock rotation so products are well displayed and available for our customer to purchase. While in this placement the Trainee Customer Service Assistant will learn to carry out tasks from our operating plan, such as stock management and compliance procedures, till operations, and making sure they always understand and adhere to policy and procedure. They will develop their skills by ensuring their eLearning road map is up to date and will take ownership for understanding the role of the placement within the store. Trainees will always maintain a co-operative and flexible working attitude. Key skills that will be developed include: Customer engagement at the till point and encouraging customer feedback through the relevant process In store upselling where applicable Learning about and adhering to all cash policy and procedures Learning about and adhering to health and safety policy and procedures Learning and applying food safety guidelines Achieving an accredited food hygiene qualification Developing a positive attitude towards customer and colleagues Understanding the ‘Think 25’ procedure and ensuring it is applied to all relevant transactions Undertaking the Scottish Personal Licence Holder qualificationSKILLS NEEDEDNo experience necessaryWORKING HOURSBy agreement on a rota basis over the trading hours of the store (6am to 10pm, Sunday to Saturday)HOURLY RATENational Minimum WageADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORTWe will provide help with CV writing, job search, completing applications forms, writing cover letters, identifying transferable skills and interview skills. This will be delivered by a skills coach from our People & Performance team. We will monitor the support given by carrying out monthly reviews with the participants allowing them to provide feedback so we can take action if required. There will be a final review at the end of the placement to ensure all of the objectives set have been met. The participants would also get the same initial training as any new starter to our business would, such as Induction & Health & Safety, along with industry specific training such as food safety, merchandising, stock management, cash handling etc. These are provided using a combination of eLearning and on-the-job training. Working alongside our store teams the participants will also learn basic work skills such as timekeeping & attendance, effective communication, and teamworking. We will create a workbook for each participant to work through with the management team of the branch each time they are in work. Each participant will have a contact (skills coach) from the People & Performance team who will hold monthly reviews and complete a review document to record progress. We work with a training partner to deliver VQ qualifications for our existing employees (Muir Slicer), and in partnership with them we will use the funding available to provide the participants with 3 core skill modules that form part of the overall VQ. We will also provide participants with certified training in Food Hygiene and Alcohol Licensing (provided in house) which they would be able to then take to another employer should they wish to remain in the food retail or hospitality sectors.
