The Network Engineer position involves designing, operating and supporting Borg Warner networking services. This is a key global IT position covering Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) as well as network security and other networking services.
The engineer covering this role role participates in the architecture, evaluation, piloting, implementation, management and operations of all network services technology. This position oversees and guides the daily activities and workflow of regional LAN and WAN activities and offer technical guidance and input on all support services to ensure the stability and integrity of the WAN, LAN, wireless and network security services. This position furthermore develops and documents standards for all LAN/WAN architecture and Network Services devices. This position manages Global Internet/Extranet Services and supports overall security strategies, processes and implementations. This position requires a deep and broad knowledge of WAN and LAN technology and a comprehensive understanding of networking and security protocols, vendors and interoperability.
- Install, configure, and support routers, switches, and firewalls, in a complex, high-availability, global environment.
- Work directly with managed service providers to design, install, and maintain managed network services.
- Assist divisional and facilities IT support with the design, configuration, installation, and support of network services.
- Evaluate new technology and present opportunities to improve the future network architecture, performance, and network services.
- Manage daily work flow of reporting specialists with regards to operational support for LAN/WAN Services.
- Review daily with Direct Manager global operational status/issues
- Maintain vigilance and drive on global projects as assigned leveraging the global team.
- Identify and escalate issues in the networked environment that may potentially negatively impact business operations.
- Ensure all LAN/WAN Service changes go through review, change control and acceptance prior to execution.
- Review/assist and support the Team Lead, Global Internet/Extranet Services as required.
- Participate in strategy setting meetings of any influencing technical service lines.
- Mentor and provide guidance to LAN/WAN specialists encouraging their technical development.
- Develop or streamline processes to further improve the delivery of Global Network & Telecommunication Services.
- Understand the architecture of the operational platforms, applications and/or IT solutions, their technical possibilities and limitations and give functional/technical advice if needed
- Translate technical requirements from projects and change this into specifications for internal and external delivery parties
- Execute engineering activities regarding brokerage, integration, implementation, publication and deployment of new and/or network and IT solutions in an efficient and automated way
- Automate processes and script knowledge as much as possible including provisioning, monitoring and continuous delivery elements
- Ensure applications, IT solutions and platforms are secure, scalable and operate autonomous providing the agreed availability and capacity supported with adequate IT continuity, contingency and resilience
- Document the technical design, configuration and test scenarios of the software solution
- Maintain in depth technical engineering knowledge regarding applications and infrastructure and provides to the point advice
- Integrate, deploy, run and manage infrastructure and IT solutions including subsystems, interfaces and integration specifications with an emphasis on integrating the networks of BorgWarner and former Delphi Technologies
The position has emphasis in the following areas:
- Installation / Setup / Configuration / Troubleshooting of LAN and WAN Equipment
- Experience with Cisco, Cisco IOS, CATOS, & NEXUS Switches
- Experience with Cisco ASA, Palo Alto Firewall Configuration and Management
- Experience with Cisco Wireless LAN Controller and Standalone WAP Configuration
- Working knowledge of Cisco ISE; relevant experience with NAC Profiling, Posturing is a plus
- General experience in routing, switching and wireless, with an emphasis on xBGP Routing Protocol and with the implementation and maintenance of Route-Policies
- Firewall Management/design/architecture: NAT / IPSEC / Access Lists / Proxy / IPS / IDS / URL filtering
- Network Design, Architecture and Troubleshooting in an MPLS Global Network
- Experience in DDI (DNS / DHCP / IPAM) is a plus
- Expertise with SD-WAN technologies is a plus
- WAN Deployments – Route Distribution over MPLS Network / Route Maps / Filtering / Traffic Prioritization
