RAN RFP Transport SpecialistWhitehall Resources are currently looking for a RAN RFP Transport Specialist on a Hybrid basis in Berkshire for an initial 6 month contract.*INSIDE IR35.*Main Responsibilities:The successful candidate will be responsible for providing day-to-day support to an upcoming RAN RFP activity. Support will be needed in respect of the transport & transmission aspects of the RAN solutions that will be proposed by the prospective suppliers. For clarity, the scope for the transport & transmission aspects will extend to both intra-RAN logical interfaces (Abis, Iub, Iur, X2, Xn, Open FH CUS-Plane, F1 and E1) and RAN-to-core logical interfaces (A, Gb, Iu-CS, Iu-PS, S1, N2 and N3) whereas the supplier-proposed equipment will consist of (but, depending upon the RAN solutions that are proposed by each prospective supplier, will not necessarily be limited to) BTSs, NodeBs, eNodeBs, gNodeBs, BSCs and RNCs (both classical and cloud-based implementations, including those that are realised based on split-architecture models).The successful candidate will be required to identify and document appropriate transport-related & transmission-related requirements for inclusion within the relevant RAN RFP schedules, to provide clarifications in response to questions from the prospective suppliers, to attend presentations given by the prospective suppliers, to evaluate/rate the responses of the prospective suppliers and to help convert the responses of the successful suppliers into contractual statements. Although the successful candidate will be guided and supported in this undertaking by members of the team in which he/she will work, he/she will be the lead for this activity and the main point-of-contact within the team for those from outside of the team who are involved in the RAN RFP activity.Key Skills:Experience of supporting RFx activities (or other techno-commercial activities) in the capacity of Subject Matter Expert (SME) and subject lead.An understanding of 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G (NSA and SA) RAN architectures, including the network elements that are involved, the logical interfaces, the types of traffic that those interfaces carry and the ways in which RAN architectures are evolving (eg split-architecture models, O-RAN, vRAN, CUPS, etc.).An understanding of the access transport solutions that are typically used within a mobile operator's RAN (eg E-Line, IP VPN, etc.).A good working knowledge of Ethernet fundamentals (eg electrical and optical Ethernet interface specifications, frame structure, MAC addressing, Layer 2 switching, VLANs, etc.)A good working knowledge of IP fundamentals (eg packet structure, IP Addressing, Layer 3 routing, VPNs, etc.).A good working knowledge of Ethernet and IP QoS mechanisms (ie PCP and DSCP marking, policing, classification, scheduling, congestion avoidance and shaping).An understanding of IP transport protocols (ie UDP, TCP, SCTP and RTP/RTCP).An understanding of transport-related synchronization techniques (ie SyncE and ToP/PTP).An understanding of the IPsec architecture and protocols.Although not essential, some familiarity with the following will be an advantage:The RAN offerings of key suppliers (eg Ericsson, Nokia, Mavenir and Samsung).2G, 3G, 4G and 5G QoS principles.Emerging fronthaul technologies (eg eCPRI, TSN, etc.).Network slicing.Network monitoring protocols, especially ICMP, TWAMP, BFD and Ethernet OAM.Router resilience using VRRP/HSRP.IGP routing protocols.The roles of DHCP and DNS within data networks.SDN.All of our opportunities require that applicants are eligible to work in the specified country/location, unless otherwise stated in the job description.Whitehall Resources are an equal opportunities employer who value a diverse and inclusive working environment.
