As we are expanding our portfolio of local payment methods we are also ensuring seamless transactions tailored to regional preferences. LPM Engineering is the first team under Stripe’s Payments umbrella to establish a presence in the new Bucharest, Romania site, part of a phased expansion of the entire group’s presence here. You will have a unique opportunity to be part of a team that helps the unlocking of new markets and empowers businesses worldwide.What you’ll doResponsibilitiesScope and lead technical projects, laying the groundwork for early-stage products to iteratively evolve and scaleDesign, build, expand and maintain APIs and servicesWork with our partners to launch new markets, payment methods, and capabilitiesAlign our technical decisions with Stripe’s broad strategic initiatives, while also advocating for needs specific to emerging new businessesCollaborate across the company to leverage existing infrastructure as well as build bespoke solutions where needed to solve problems end-to-endMinimum requirementsEmpathy, strong communication skills and a deep respect for the power of collaborationA learning mindset, regardless of level or experienceSoftware engineering experience in a high-stakes production environmentExperience writing high quality code in a major programming language and a constructive attitude to help others raise the barAbility to drive clear next steps when encountering ambiguous spaces without clear lines of ownershipAbility to think creatively and holistically about reducing risk in complex environmentsFinancial experience is a plus but not at all a requirement In-office expectations Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in our Bucharest, Romania site have an 80% in-office expectation, and those in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico and Bengalaru, India work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.
